# Switching to a different clinic

Source: https://medcannaindex.com/guides/switching-clinic

You can move to another prescribing clinic. Do not cancel your current clinic until the new one has accepted you and you know when its first prescription will be issued, so there is no gap in your treatment. Compare the cost of a full year, not just the first appointment, and tell both clinics so that only one is prescribing for you.

How to move to another prescribing clinic without a gap in your treatment, and what it can cost.

The short version

- Do not cancel your current clinic until the new one has accepted you and you know when your first prescription will be issued.

- Compare the cost of a full year, not just the first appointment.

- Tell both clinics what is happening, so you are only ever prescribed by one of them.

1. Compare the real cost

Clinics charge in different ways: a fee for each appointment and prescription, or a monthly subscription. Use the cost calculator to see a full year for up to three plans, with your medication included. Some clinics list a lower fee for patients moving from another clinic, shown as "Swap to Clinic" in the price list on the clinic's page. If you are a veteran, a student, receiving benefits or in another group, check the reduced-fee schemes.

2. Ask the new clinic what it needs

Before you pay anything, ask:

- whether it sees patients with your condition;

- what records it needs, and whether it will request them or you should;

- whether it needs details of your current prescription;

- how soon after the first appointment a prescription is usually issued;

- which pharmacy it sends prescriptions to, and what it charges to use a different one.

3. Avoid a gap

Count how many days of medicine you have left and book the new clinic's appointment with time to spare. Reviews on a clinic's page show how long other patients waited for a first appointment and for the prescription to be sent, where patients have said. Keep your current clinic until the new clinic's prescription has been issued.

4. Check your pharmacy

Most clinics send prescriptions to a pharmacy they are linked to, which may not be the one you use now. Use the Stock Finder to see whether the new clinic's pharmacy lists your product and what patients have paid there.

5. Close your old account properly

- Tell your old clinic you are moving, and ask it to confirm that no further prescriptions will be issued.

- If you pay a subscription, check the notice period and cancel it yourself. Do not assume it stops when you leave.

- Tell the new clinic the date of your last prescription from the old one.

Being prescribed the same medicine by two clinics at once is something both will want to avoid, so be open with each about the other.
